In 2014 we began a design exercise to use 24 foot wide townhouse lots for micro-housing. The Smart House was born.
These high-performance, passive-solar houses have 2 bedrooms in 670-740 square feet. These efficient little homes have been built both on-site and in an off-site factory. The mono slope roof of this group of Smart Houses is designed to optimize winter solar gain while providing summer shading. All are super-insulated with south-facing windows optimized for solar gain. The 740 sf version of this house includes a loft, triple pane, super-insulating windows and phase change thermal storage materials hidden in the structure.
